VZ Security Pages: Security functions

Security functions

The VZ-Networks are protected through a number of security functions that ensure your data is always secure:

Captcha codes allow us to distinguish between real people and programs created to read data from our pages automatically – known as bots (a "crawler", for example). You are required to decipher to small words, which are relatively difficult to read. This is almost impossible for bots to do. Once you have entered a correct code, you can continue. This stops a bot from being able to operate and ensures user data remains protected.

If a profile causes a large number of clicks within a short period of time it will be blocked for a limited period (for a day at most), to prevent technical attacks on our system.
For this reason, we have limited the number of page requests on our websites. Following a large number of clicks, a "mini-break" will be enforced. On rare occasions it may therefore be the case that particularly active users are mistaken for bots and sent on a "mini-break". To prevent this, we are continually optimizing this mechanism and are having it checked by the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

If you are using VZ normally, it is extremely unlikely that you will be sent on a “mini-break”. If your profile has been blocked, please note the following points:

  • Deactivate any scripts ( "Greasemonkey" or "Sidebar", for example) – when running in the background, they can generate many requests.
  • Do you have many open tabs in your browser? These can also generate many requests when running in the background.
  • Logout when you leave VZ.
